From CO2 to CO3

Date: 13/01/2012

During the NDL / HIDC seminar "Together we are strong" the project CO3 (Collaborative Concepts for Co-Modality) has been presented for the first time to a broad audience. This European program has to make European logistics more efficient and more sustainable by more cooperation of shippers.
The capacity of the transport system in Europe is structurally underutilized. Statistics show that 1 in 4 trucks are running empty and of the remainder of the trucks only 57 percent of their maximum weight is used.

The bundling of freight flows from different companies is a solution to tackle this problem. Companies that bundlle theit supply flows together in a so-called horizontal collaboration can achieve drastic improvements in the economic, social and environmental fields.

Yet companies that are willing to cooperate find too many practical obstacles on their way. One of the aims of CO³ to eliminate these obstacles.

Driving CO³ is a consortium of 18 European partners that will join forces to further refine existing concepts of horizontal cooperation and together with shippers put it into practice.

The project, which runs until September 2014 and can draw on the expertise of an extensive network of European companies and research institutions.
