MSPC SEMINAR – Funding possibilities for Transport and Logistics

Date: 19/06/2012

In line with its mission to promote short sea initiatives in Malta, the Malta Short Sea Promotion Center will this year be holding another seminar on this subject, together with Malta – EU Steering and Action Committee (MEUSAC) and the European Commission Representation in Malta. The three hour, focused seminar will be held on Tuesday 3rd July at Europa House Valletta and the invited speakers, all specialist in their fields will deal with the MARCO POLO programme, the TEN T Network and the Escola Europea de Short Sea Shipping. They will highlight the possibilities available to Maltese initiatives and time will also be allocated for questions and discussion.

MARCO POLO aims to ease road congestion and its attendant pollution by promoting a switch to greener transport modes for European freight traffic. Companies with viable projects to shift freight from roads to greener modes can turn to Marco Polo for financial support. More than 500 companies have already benefitted from this funding programme since it was launched in 2003.

The Trans-European Transport Networks, popularly known as TEN-T are a planned set of road, rail, air and water transport networks designed to serve the entire continent of Europe. TEN-T envisages coordinated improvements to primary roads, railways, inland waterways, airports, seaports, inland ports and traffic management systems, so as to provide integrated and intermodal long-distance high-speed routes for the movement of people and freight throughout Europe. A decision to adopt TEN-T was made by the European Parliament and Council in July 1996 and as a result of this, the EU works to promote the networks by a combination of leadership, issuance of guidelines and the funding of aspects of development through a series of projects. Malta has already benefited from this programme but more opportunities are available to the local transport industry.

The Escola Europea de Short Sea Shipping is a training center which aims to open professionals’ minds to the advantages and rewards of intermodal transport. It does so through the promotion of co-modality as the basis for the development of sustainable logistics within European transport systems. Hands on courses and seminars are held every year, attended by participants coming from all European countries. MSPC is promoting this school as a point of reference for upcoming executives within the local transport industry to experience a hands on, live in week of training and interaction.

This Seminar is aimed to all players within the local transport industry who will have an opportunity to hear from the specialists in these areas the possibilities available for Maltese initiatives and how such initiatives can be turned into viable business opportunities.

Participation is free of charge , however registration is highly recommended in  view of seating restrictions. Registration may be confirmed up to 28th June on email address - [email protected] by sending your full name, company name, email address and phone number.
