First IMLI (Malta) maritime law essay competition

Date: 12/02/2013

The first edition of the Internal Maritime Law Institute’s Maritime Law Essay Competition was organised by the editorial board of the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) Law Review under the patronage of IMLI director David Attard in collaboration with the Research, Innovation and Development Trust of the University of Malta.

The competition sought essays featuring any aspect of international maritime law, covered by the IMLI Masters of Laws syllabus.

Participation in this competition was open to all ELSA members, from 300 law faculties in 42 countries in Europe. Eligible essays were those in English, between 5,000 to 6,000 words long, and which adhered to the editorial policy of the ELSA Malta Law Review.

Essays had to be the author’s original work, without being unduly influenced by research carried out by an academic member or legal practitioner.

Each essay was adjudicated by a panel of judges composed of lecturers and academics from IMLI, which evaluated each submission on the basis of originality and practical relevance, persuasiveness of arguments and clarity.
