Monthly Featured MSPC Member: Malta Motorways of the Sea

Date: 10/10/2013

The Malta Motorways of the Sea is a founder member to the MSPC. Registered during November 2005, Malta Motorways of the Sea Limited has consolidated the Grimaldi Group’s longstanding commitment to Malta with an uninterrupted and consistent presence for more than 50 years. MMOS’s eight year experience is set to continue with its development plans for an exciting future.  There is no doubt that MMOS/Grimaldi Group will continue to support the industrial and commercial development of Malta and its economic activities.

MMOS currently owns four RoRo vessels , the M.V. EUROFERRY MALTA – M.V. EUROCARGO EUROPA – M.V. EUROCARGO AFRICA and the latest fleet addition,  the M.V. EUROCARGO ISTANBUL.

During the past eight years we have seen very ambitious and exciting investment plans for the Grimaldi Group with 31 new vessels that have and will continue to enhance the young fleet operated by the Group.  These new vessels were built to very high specifications to cater for various types of rolling cargoes combined with cabin accommodation and luxurious conditions suitable for carrying passengers. Two of the new buildings, the m.v. Eurocargo Malta and the m.v. Eurocargo Venezia were immediately deployed on the Malta Trade to serve the Public Service Contract held by MMOS with the aim to guarantee maritime links between Malta and mainland Italy as well as Sicily.

The Grimaldi Group’s commitment to invest in the Maltese economy has also extended beyond the provision of shipping services.  Malta Motorways of the Sea Ltd has also sought to promote itself as an integral part of the business community in Malta.  There has been conscious effort to develop and build cooperation agreements with other key players in the industry, such as;

The healthy business relationship between Palumbo Shipyards Malta and Grimaldi Group  has assisted the Maltese economy to secure a total of 15 Grimaldi Group vessels, which have gone through extensive repair and paint work at Palumbo, during the past 2 year period.

  • Support to the Malta Maritime Institute/MCAST through the investment of state of the art simulation equipment.
  • Regular assistance to Maltese cadets that require sea time onboard Grimaldi Group vessels to obtain their international certification.
  • Employment of qualified officers who join our Group on full time career.
  • The annual recognition of the first three cadets placing in their academic program as an award from Grimaldi Group to allow students to further their studies.

MMOS/Grimaldi Group also supports Cultural initiatives such as the restoration of the Santa Caterina d’Italia Church in Valletta. Grimaldi Group was one of the first Groups to support the Italian Ambassador’s inititative regarding the impressive restoration work carried out.
