Malta re-elected on IMO council

Date: 09/12/2013

Malta has been re-elected on the International Maritime Organisation council for the eighth consecutive time. In all, it was elected to the council nine times.

The election was held during the 27th sitting of the organisation's general assembly in London. The 40 members that make up the council were elected from among the 170 member states of the organisation. The elections ensure that the council is made up of members who have maritime interests and that all world regions are represented.

The Transport Ministry said this was a prestigious result for Malta which enjoyed one of the 10 biggest ship registers in the world and the respect of the international community in the sector.
