Monthly Featured MSPC Member: Valletta Gateway Terminals Ltd

Valletta Gateway Terminals Ltd is a joint venture between Mitsui - Portek of Singapore and Tumas Group of Malta.

On the 1st July 2006, the Malta Maritime Authority awarded VGT a 30 year concession agreement to manage terminal operations at the Grand Harbour of Valletta.  VGT’s Multi Purpose Terminals can handle containers, Ro-Ro, vehicles and any conventional cargo.

Portek Group, established in 1988, is a leading provider of the solutions to the port industry.  The Group's terminal operations portfolio includes eight container and multipurpose terminals in Indonesia, Algeria, Malta, Latvia and Gabon.  Portek's unique combination of port engineering, port management and port information technology expertise has enabled Portek to quickly gear up the capacity of a terminal, establish its operational infrastructure and build up port throughput within a short time.

Through their operations in emerging markets, VGT strive to contribute towards the sustainable development of economies, thus their ethos of "Maximising Throughput and Accelerating Growth" for their clients, partners and communities around the world.

A Subsidiary of Mitsui & Co Ltd

Portek is a subsidiary of Mitsui & Co Ltd of Japan, which is a veritable household name with 130 years of history.  Leveraging on Mitsui's established global network, Portek is able to deliver enhanced knowledge and solutions in the port business, as VGT combines Portek's niche capabilities and "can-do" spirit with Mitsui's resources.

Tumas Group

Established in 1966, the group started operations in the property sector, later on expanding into tourism and leisure activities and services so that today they have been described as Malta's most enterprising and exciting entrepreneur in property development.
After four decades the group comprises of 37 companies and 5 jointly owned companies employing over 1,000 people in Malta and 200 in France.
