Date: 09/10/2014

Transport Minister Joe Mizzi hosted a meeting in Malta with Cypriot Communications Minister Marios Demetriades and Greek Shipping Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis to discuss a common position on maritime affairs at international and regional level.

The three countries are the three main maritime nations in the European Union.

The meeting held in September followed similar meetings in Greece and Cyprus.

The ministers discussed current maritime issues such as environment protection and green house emissions and the social dimension of shipping.

Mr Mizzi said it was s of utmost importance for the three countries to continue strengthening their cooperation in order to ensure that their interests were adequately represented and taken into account when policy and legislation were being formulated at both EU and international level.
