MedaMoS project seminar in Malta

Date: 28/05/2010

The MedaMoS/Mediterranean Motorways of the Sea project is an EU funded initiative of the EuroMed Regional Transport Action Plan (RTAP 2007-2013) that aims at improving transport connections between South and East Mediterranean Countries (ENP / 12 Countries) and North Mediterranean (EU) transport networks and markets. This action is in a transition phase since January 2010, with a program of activities to be completed in July and before a new Technical Assistance project (MedaMoS II) to be launched in continuation.

MoS pilot projects prepared and developed during MedaMoS I were based on partnerships between operators linking and established both sides of MoS axes, with the determining involvement of Ports and the support of key institutional stakeholders in South and East Mediterranean Countries (Ministries of Transport, Custom Authorities etc). Several Memorandum of Agreements have been concluded between concerned ports represented by Port Authorities and other partners to confirm their common willingness to cooperate in the implementation of MoS solutions.

Malta organized the last of a series of study tours of the MEDAMoS seminars entitled "MoS Port and Port Community Partnership". The aim of this seminar was to assemble MoS project/Port representatives to exchange on their respective experiences of MoS pilot projects and on difficulties and solutions with a particular focus on partnership issues, European partner ports being invited to join the seminar.

Discussions evolved on the contributions of MoS to the Mediterranean Transport Network. The seminar was also a good opportunity for delegates to get introduced to the maritime sector and port sectors of Malta, which included visits to the port sites of Valletta and Marsaxlokk.
