TEN-T: The Port of Bremen to supply green fuel with EU support

Date: 11/02/2015

The EU's TEN-T Programme will invest almost €2.5 million for studies and pilot construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the seaport of Bremen in Germany. The green and economically attractive LNG could help reduce air pollution caused by maritime transport.

European Regulations require the shipping sector to reduce marine sulphur emissions in the North Sea to 0.1% as of January 2015.

One of the ways to reach this objective is to use cleaner fuel such as LNG. This project responds to the TEN-T programme goal to provide publicly accessible LNG refuelling facilities in all core European ports by 2030, leading to improved market acceptance and availability of LNG as an alternative fuel.

Executive round-up on current market drivers and challenges ahead from the IMO, ISU and IUMI.
