Ministerial meeting on the integration of the Western Balkans into the TEN-T network

Date: 11/08/2015

On the occasion of the high-level transport conference 'TEN-T Days 2015'  in Riga, EU Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc met the Ministers of Albania, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to discuss further steps for the integration of the Western Balkans into the TEN-T network. The Ministers reviewed the maps for the core network extension to the Western Balkans and corridor coordinator's mandate has now been agreed. Commissioner Bulc said: "Today's meeting with my Western Balkan colleagues marks a milestone in better connecting Europe to its neighbours. The setting up of an integrated transport network which facilitates people's mobility and trade will significantly contribute to the economic development of the Western Balkans region. The successful implementation of the core network in the Western Balkans countries will depend, however, on the appropriate identification of "core" priority projects. In addition to infrastructure investments, horizontal measures to make the transport system of the Western Balkans more efficient and the overall region more attractive to foreign investments also need to be undertaken."

The meeting paves the way to the Western Balkans Six (WB6) Ministers meeting in Vienna on 27 August.
