Regional training course for coastal stakeholders

Date: 13/11/2015

Delegates from 15 European countries with a Mediterranean or Black Sea coast, including Malta, and Black Sea Commission reepresentatives, attended a regional stakeholder training course in Malta.

The main aim was to share the measures they propose to adopt so as to achieve Good Environmental Status of their coastal water by 2020 in line with the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.

The participants also held discussions on additional measures that need to be adopted and implemented in their respective countries in order to address ongoing issues.

The delegates represented different stakeholders in the respective countries, such as Transport Malta, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority, NGOs and the Fisheries Department.

The course was organised by the Physical Oceanography Research Group of the University’s Department of Geosciences as part of the Perseus project, which aims to develop new tools and approaches in response to the implementation of the directive.
