Brittany Ferries' MN Pelican will continue to operate between the UK and Spain

Date: 07/09/2017

Brittany Ferries will continue to operate the ro-ro MN Pelican, connecting the British port of Poole with Spain for two more years. The shipping company has extended the freight contract of the boat , 155 meters in length, which will allow it to cope with the increase in demand on this route.

Its aim is to encourage new operators to consider the advantages of using this maritime line to take their goods to the Iberian peninsula, rather than through France by road.

The vessel, belonging to Maritime Nantaise and French flag, has the capacity to carry up to 100 empty semi-trailers . In February 2016, he left for the first time from the port area of Poole to Bilbao carrying 72 semitrailers and six trucks.

Although used for unaccompanied transportation, the MN Pelican also has private booths for up to eight drivers. Currently, it makes two trips each week between both destinations .

On the other hand, the operator has commissioned a new cruise ship ferry worth 175 million pounds (195 million euros). The Honfleur, powered by Liquefied Natural Gas, LNG , will be the most environmentally friendly vessel operating in the English Channel. Specifically, it will cover the line between the English port of Portsmouth and the French port of Caen.
