The Escola Europea presents the TransLogMed project in Tunis

Date: 26/01/2018

After Tangier Med in October, the Escola Europea has organised a new edition of the conference “Motorways of the Sea: new tools for a logistic development”, presented in Tunis. The Escola displayed the training program specifically designed for North-African students as well as the logistic and intermodal services offered by the ports to the motorways of the sea.

The conference, opened by the Tunisian Minister of Transport, Radhouen Ayara and by Francesc Carbonell, project manager of the Union for the Mediterranean, was addressed to both logistics directors and Tunisian training centres. The international speakers talked to the Maghrebi logistics representatives about how important it is to boost the short sea shipping as a sustainable and competitive alternative and how necessary intermodality is to develop the logistics activities on the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean.

Organized by the Escola Europea and the Mediterranean Training Institute for Maritime Trades and supported by the Escola Europea’s stakeholders, this conference gives continuity to the one held under the same title in Tangier last October 6th.

The organisation counted on the participation of several representatives of the main ports, operators and infrastructures dealing with the motorways of the sea: COTUNAV, Grimaldi Group and GNV shipping lines; ports of Barcelona, Civitavecchia and Genoa; STAM port terminal operator; the OMMP, Office of the Merchant Marine and of Ports; the national customs and several international logistics operators.

The Escola Europea’s director, Eduard Rodés, has highlighted the importance of training in transport and logistics and presented the TRANSLOGMED project, including the tailor-made offer of courses and workshops the Escola Europea has designed for Maghrebi logistics professionals and students. The new courses will take place aboard the ferries regularly connecting Barcelona and the ports of Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria, as well as on the ferries serving the regular lines between Italy and Tunisia. The first course was held in Tangier Med last November. Rodés also reminded two previous courses about SSS and the development of logistics platforms organised by the Escola Europea for two delegations of Tunisian professionals.

Next on the Translogmed project schedule is to start works with Algeria and organise the courses to be held in Morocco and Tunisia.
