Deep Water Quay tender evaluation resumes

Date: 20/02/2018

Bids were submitted last July

The evaluation of the tender for the restructuring of the strategically important Deep Water Quay was halted after an appeal was filed but has now resumed, Capital Projects Minister Ian Borg said, although he gave no information about the reason.

The original tender for the second phase of the works was issued in May 2017 and closed in July 2017, but responding to a parliamentary question by MP Chris Said, the minister said that the evaluation had now re-started. Once that was concluded, the contractor could be chosen, he added.

He said that the bids had varied between €18,545,567.80 and €31,649,564.08, with the financing to come from the government.

The Contracts Department shows that there were six bids from three operators: Polidano Brothers (2), Bezzina Maritime Services (2) Marsa J.V. (2). The tender was recommended for cancellation in November 2017.

The work includes piling, construction work, reinforced-concrete structures
and marine construction works.

The extension of Pinto Wharf and Deep Water Quay in Grand Harbour were among the Budget 2017 projects.
