167 employees have witnessed Freeport’s impressive growth over past 25 years

Date: 27/11/2018

Malta Freeport Terminals held a special ceremony for 49 employees who this year marked 25 years with the company and have witnessed the Freeport grow from a relatively small operation handling 288,000 containers to over 3.15 million today. This crop of long-service employees join another 118 who were recognised  over the past three years, bringing the total number of staff who have reached this milestone at the Freeport to 167. Freeport CEO Alex Montebello said: “We are very proud of the growth we have achieved in the past quarter of a century, but we are equally delighted that so many of our staff have chosen to be part of our journey – which will continue to undertake together.”

The Freeport recently invested €25 million in new, environmentally-friendly yard equipment and upgraded part of the yard area of Terminal One, increasing stacking capability, which has enabled the yard – which is at full capacity – to store an additional 4,000 containers. “The Freeport has had a very clear vision of what it wishes to achieve and will continue to invest in state-of-the-art facilities in a concerted drive to remain an attractive proposition for the world’s leading shipping lines. Our dedicated personnel are at the very heart of this,” Mr Montebello said. Operations at Malta Freeport Terminals directly contributed €107 million to Malta’s economy in 2017, a figure that rises to €171 million when indirect benefits are considered.
